Following the serious road accident in Durrës, where two minors lost their lives and another was seriously injured, the Director of the Durrës Local Police Directorate, Afrim Tafa, has been suspended from duty until the investigations are completed.

Ervin Hodaj has been appointed temporarily in his place.

According to the State Police, in response to the grave accident that occurred yesterday in the city of Durrës, the General Director of the State Police, Senior Director Skender Hita, acting in accordance with the State Police regulations, ordered the suspension of several senior officials due to poor performance in carrying out their duties.

The officials suspended from duty are:

• Afrim Tafa, Director of the Durrës Local Police Directorate;
• Zija Sulaj, Deputy Director for Public Order and Security at the Durrës Local Police Directorate;
• Kreshnik Skëndo, Head of the Road Traffic Police Sector at the Durrës Local Police Directorate.

Immediately after the incident, the General Director of the State Police also instructed the Road Traffic Police Directorate to establish a group of experts, who went to the scene to examine the causes and circumstances of the accident.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Professional Standards at the General Directorate of the State Police has launched a disciplinary investigation to determine whether there was any responsibility among police officers in relation to this case.
